Utah Health Insurance
As with all US states, there are some regulations governing individual health insurance in Utah which are different from the other states. If you are not eligible for health insurance through your employer, membership in an association, COBRA, Utah's continuation coverage, conversion coverage, Medicaid, Medicare, or HIP Utah program, Utah health insurers are required to provide individual insurance coverage to you if you are a resident of Utah. Utah also requires standardized policies which contain specific benefits from all individual health plans, as well as additional policies that they choose to offer. For HIPAA eligible individuals who cannot buy HIPUtah, you cannot be required to fulfill an exclusion period before your health coverage kicks in. The premiums for individual health policies are based on the average of small group health insurance. Your individual health plan cannot be cancelled if you get sick. Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield administers Utah's Comprehensive Health Insurance Pool for those who are unable to buy individual health insurance.
The following online resource, put together by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, will arm you with the information that you'll need to know to make a more informed and confident decision about your health insurance.
