State Rankings

When it comes to healthcare, Delaware doesn't have many statistics of which to be proud. Delaware ranks in the bottom ten in percentage of binge drinking cases, violent crime offenses, air pollution, infant mortality, and early prenatal care, according to statistics provided by UnitedHealth. These negative statistics are partially made up for by top fifteen rankings in infectious disease cases, uninsured residents, public health funding, and preventable hospitalizations, but not enough to give Delaware as good of a state ranking as its Northeast neighbors. Delaware healthcare ranks highly in public and health policy values, but this has not created better health outcomes for the state and more needs to be done to improve overall healthcare for Delaware residents, especially when state incidences of obesity and smoking are higher than normal and need to be addressed. With such good numbers for public health, it would suggest that healthcare in Delaware should improve over time.

Delaware Healthcare

For the most part, Delaware healthcare outcomes are fairly good, with figures in the top half for diabetes rate and poor physical and mental health days. Still, Delaware is thirteenth in the percent of residents without health insurance at 12%, according to the Kaiser Foundation. Healthcare spending by the state of Delaware has actually increased at a higher rate than the national average, so its unhealthiness has not been lost on the state government. Luckily, Delaware residents still have a wide range of quality healthcare and health insurance options. Delaware residents have a large number of healthcare plans that have been highly rated by the NCQA:
