According by an eHealthinsurance study, St. Louis offered the most affordable health insurance in the nation for children, and the ninth most affordable health insurance rates for families.
The eHealth study was somewhat narrow in scope. It looked only at high-deductible health insurance bought by individuals rather than more comprehensive, employer-based plans. However, the report does show parents that they can buy health insurance for their children at an affordable price, as low as $29 per month. But that is only if they are willing to purchase plans with less coverage.
The trend towards high-deductible health plans is part of a broader move to more "consumer-directed" health care. Generally, the phrase refers to health insurance plans that make members responsible for more of their health care costs.
St. Louis has traditionally ranked among the lowest-cost markets for health insurance in the nation, but in recent years prices have climbed more quickly than in other markets. Start Your Free No-Obligation health insurance quote now
