The company's Blue Options preferred provider
organization plan was awarded full three-year
accreditation by the National Committee for Quality
Assurance. This is the second time the Blue Options plan
has been given that recognition, and it's the only PPO
plan in the state to earn the designation.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield also maintained its
"Excellent" accreditation status -- the highest level
offered -- for its Blue Care HMO plan and its Blue Choice
point-of-service plan.
The accreditations focus on health plan members' access
to care and services, how Blue Cross and Blue Shield
evaluates health care providers' qualifications and
members' satisfaction with those providers.
The National Committee for Quality Assurance is a
nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality
of health care.
Blue Cross and Blue
Shield is the largest private health insurer in the
state. Its HMO and PPO products cover hundreds of
thousands of people in the Triad.
