MedicareRx is another name for the new Medicare prescription drug benefit, Medicare Part D, which began paying benefits on January 1, 2006.
Participation in MedicareRx is voluntary. Eligible Medicare beneficiaries should begin gathering information now so they are able to make informed decisions about whether or not they should participate in this new benefit.

Key Dates
- May 15, 2006 - Current Medicare recipients must enroll by this date to get Medicare prescription drug coverage without paying higher premiums.
- November 2006 - Open enrollment for the Medicare drug plan for current Medicare recipients. Coverage will begin January 1, 2007.
MedicareRx plans are not Medicare Supplement plans, and do not cover non-prescription related health care expenses that Medicare doesn't pay.
