Assurant, Inc., incorporated in 2003, is a holding company provider of specialized insurance products and related services in North America and selected other markets. Through its operating subsidiaries, the Company provides creditor-placed homeowners insurance, manufactured housing homeowners insurance, debt protection administration, credit insurance, warranties and extended service contracts, individual health insurance and small employer group health insurance, group dental insurance, group disability insurance, group life insurance and pre-funded funeral insurance.

Fortis, Inc. had formed Assurant and merged into it on February 4, 2004. The merger was executed in order to re-domesticate Fortis, Inc. from Nevada to Delaware and to change its name. As a result of the merger, Assurant is the successor to the business operations and obligations of Fortis, Inc. The Company has four operating segments, which are defined based on the nature of the products and services offered: Solutions, Health, Employee Benefits and PreNeed.

Assurant Health, which the Company began operating with the acquisition of Time Holdings, Inc., is a writer of individual and short-term major medical health insurance. Assurant Health also provides small employer group health insurance to employer groups primarily of two to 50 employees in size and health insurance plans to full-time college students. The Company serves approximately 1.1 million people throughout the United States. It was one of the first companies to offer a Health Savings Account (HSA) feature as part of its individual health products and it continues to be a provider of HSA-linked individual health policies.
