Health Insurance Coverage Types
Health Insurance Coverage refers to health insurance plans offered by insurance companies and the health maintenance organizations. Basically, health insurance coverage is of two types.
- "Fee for service" health insurance coverage, and
- "Managed care" health insurance coverage - these include PPO, HMO, and POS plans
The health insurance coverage can be obtained as part of an employer group which offers health coverage to its employees or members. These health insurance plans are considered group health insurance coverage.
An individual health insurance policy, not purchased through an employer or other group, can be bought directly from an agent or carrier.
The type of health plan selected determines the benefits that are included, how you accesses and receive health care, and what you must pay out of pocket should you require medical attention.
Women planning to become pregnant should be advised to select health insurance with maternity coverage.
