Children who have health insurance coverage tend to have better health throughout their childhood years and into adulthood. These children are more likely to 1) receive needed immunizations that prevent disease 2) receive treatment for recurring illnesses 3) receive preventative care and 4) in general get sick much less often.
PeachCare for Kids began covering Georgia children in 1999, providing comprehensive health care to children through the age of 18 who do not qualify for Medicaid and live in households with incomes at or below 235% of the federal poverty level (ex. about $40,000 / yr for family of 3 and about $48,000 for a family of 4).
