Compass is a new individual health insurance plan offered by HealthPartners. Compass is unique because it offers a support program called Member Assistance Program – or MAP – which provides coverage for counseling for life’s difficult non-medical situations such as job stress, divorce, substance abuse for example.
Stress and anxiety can worsen and potentially lead to other medical issues if not kept in check. It will be interesting to see how offering this type of built in benefit affects medical cost utilization.
HealthPartners is the first health insurer to offer such coverage as part of an individual health plan in Minnesota.
The individual health insurance marketplace has been robust in Minnesota over the past 10 years, as the number of families covered by private health plans purchased on their own has increased more than 25%
