UnitedHealthcare Taking Action To Assist Hurricane Victims

Hurricane Irene had devastating effects for thousands of Americans and many people are rushing to help those in need.  One such group is UnitedHealthcare and their MAMSI groups which are working together to help those affected by Irene in addition to supporting the Red Cross and their efforts.  UnitedHealthcare prioritized helping these victims and immediately implemented a plan.

Some of their actions included special measures to ensure UnitedHealthcare members living in affected areas had continuous access to healthcare and prescription medications.  There are multiple states involved in the hurricane watches including North Carolina, Virgina, Washington DC, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.  This is a huge project for any company to take on and UnitedHealthcare has been there.  They want to ensure these states are getting immediate access to the care they need.

Plan participants who are out of their home or who are unable to reach their medicare care team can call UnitedHealthcare for special assistance.  Also, if they urgently need prescriptions filled, they are getting special attention and working with local pharmacists to make sure people have uninterrupted prescription service.  In addition to these helpful measures, they are giving a $500,000 annual commitment through the Annual Disaster Giving Program of the American Red Cross which offers shelter, food, emotional support, and additional services in areas affected by natural disasters.

UnitedHealthcare continues to be focused and dedicated to helping people throughout the nation lead healthier lives by improving their health care experience and being there for their members in times of need.  For more information on the disaster relief program through UnitedHealthcare you can visit their homepage.
