The government is continuing their efforts to help Americans with pre-existing conditions find affordable health insurance coverage. There are about 25 million uninsured Americans currently with pre-existing conditions and often the reason behind this is costs are just too high for them.
In the coming weeks, a nationally funded health care program will drop premiums and help more people with pre-existing receive eligibility for quality health insurance. It’s been named the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan and it’s considered a cornerstone of Obama’s health care reform according to the article “Another Pricing Test for Insuring People with Pre-Existing Conditions” by Annamaria Andriotis on The Wall Street Journal. KY health insurance, as well as other states such as Alabama, Arizona, Delaware and Virginia are expecting discounts for qualifying applicants.
Under the new pricing system, health insurance prices may fall up to 40% in some states. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services state the 40% drop can be seen in some states including Florida. The new program will cover yearly preventative care without a deductible but total out of pocket expenses will still range from $6000-$7000 and some critics say this isn’t enough savings to truly help those struggling to get health insurance with pre-existing conditions. It is a step in the right direction, but most likely more will need to be done to make a big impact to this group of Americans.
