Consider Health Insurance When Looking for a New Job

With unemployment rates staying discouragingly high, many consumers are out and about looking for a new job.  If you are one of the lucky few who have a variety of possible opportunities be sure to look closely at what kind of benefit packages your potential employer offers.

Whether your company has options for a PPO insurance quote or an HMO insurance quote, understand how the differences will affect you.  Health care reform is causing employers to change the way they offer benefits to their employees, and some packages may actually decrease as employers try to save money.  If you can get information as to how health care reform is affecting their packages that would be ideal.  Otherwise, try to get a history of how health insurance benefits have changed over the past five years.  This can give valuable insight into how the employer values this particular benefit for their employees.

Many companies advertise inexpensive plans, but be weary if it sounds too good to be true.  Often times, very cheap health insurance does not offer a comprehensive list of benefits and it could end up costing you more if health care bills pile up.  Do your homework and consider benefits packages carefully since they can dig into your salary making the position not as enticing as other offers.
