Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama (BCBSA) has come out with a statement about annual enrollment periods for children with preexisting conditions on their website. This is in response to the Obama administration’s clarification that it will include annual enrollment periods for the children’s preexisting conditions.
Scott P. Serota, president and CEO of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association released a statement saying how pleased they are to announce that they will be including an annual enrollment period for the children’s preexisting condition exclusion rule. The administration quickly responded to the concerns BCBSA raised over possible adverse selection that may occur if plans are required to cover children with preexisting conditions without an open enrollment period.
Blue Cross Blue Shield believes this new policy will ensure that children receive the most comprehensive coverage possible while avoiding unintended consequences. This goes right along with other public and private health insurance plans.
