Leaders of small businesses say that the new health care legislation aimed at controlling their health insurance costs brings them much closer to a level playing field in the Massachusetts health insurance system. This is according to the article found on Boston.com by Kay Lazar discussing the new health care measure and its affect on small businesses.
Since many small businesses do not offer insurance to their employers they are forced to look for health insurance quotes on their own. This could lead them to receive an HMO or PPO insurance quote based on the individual’s needs and this can be very expensive. The new legislation is still awaiting the governor’s signature, but it should bring big benefits for small businesses and their health insurance options. The law would allow small businesses to negotiate cheaper insurance rates which would make it easier to offer health insurance to their employees.
Small business leaders have been lobbying for this legislation for awhile and are excited to have some bargaining power for more affordable health insurance for themselves as well as their employees. If the law is signed by the governor then it will take effect immediately in the state of Massachusetts.
