According to their website, KPS Health Plan has extended an early adoption of the dependent coverage to age 26. One of the provisions from the health care bill passed in March was to allow dependent children up to age 26 to remain on their parents’ health care plans. This is to start September 23, 2010, but KPS is implementing the change sooner to meet the needs of their policyholders.
Dependent children up to age 26 who were enrolled as of March 23, 2010 and also meet certain criteria will see their coverage extended. It will be automatic unless the employer coverage opts out of this option. The early adoption of this provision applies to all KPS groups and plans except the Federal Employees Benefits Health Program.
KPS Health Insurance is just one of many health insurance carriers taking on this early adoption. The recognize the importance of meeting the needs of their customers and ensuring they are getting the best quality service possible. Health care reform has many more provisions to come, but this is one of the first ones getting implemented early by many carriers.
