Blue Cross Blue Shield Ahead of Health Care Reform

With the new health care reform signed into law earlier this year President Obama made coverage available to adult children up to age 26 on their parents plan starting September 23, 2010.  Blue Cross Blue Shield realized that many young adults could lose their coverage while they wait for the law to take effect.  So they are ahead of the game and is making this happen in advance.

Thirty-nine independent BCBS companies are going to allow thousands of young adults to stay covered on their parents’ policies starting June 1.  They will be offering this extension of coverage to employer accounts for their members.

Scott P. Serota, BCBSA president and chief executive officer, says that each BCBS system is working together with the Obama administration, Congress and state regulators to offer an effective implementation of the new health care law.  BCBS continues to work hard to enhance coverage for as many Americans as they possible can.  This proactive approach to health care is a huge step for health insurance companies.  It’s possible more insurers will follow their lead and implement this new requirement sooner than later.
