Kennedy’s Health Insurance Includes Public Plan

Senator Edward Kennedy has a health care plan which would require everyone to have health insurance and it would also include a government program to create more competition with private insurers.  The proposal would give health insurance providers who agreed to participate in the plan 10% more than they would get under Medicare.

Kennedy’s plan would also require employers to provide health insurance or pay into supporting the public plan.  There would be a federal standard for Medicaid to cover people who earn up to 150% of poverty.  The Children’s Health Insurance program would be extended as well.  The age of eligible children covered would be increased to 26 from 18.  Overall, Kennedy wants to keep the foundation that if you are happy with what you have you keep it, and if not you will have more options.
