Former Senator John Edwards’ health care reform plan is centered on an individual mandate requiring all Americans to buy and maintain health insurance coverage. According to his statements he would:

5 Key Points in Edwards Health Care Plan

1) Require employers to help cover or help finance the health insurance coverage of their employees

2) Expand Medicaid, the State Children’s Health Insurance Program and the FEHBP.

3) Create regional purchasing pools to help health insurance shoppers find and bargain for lower-priced health  insurance.

 4) Require health insurance companies to spend 85% of premiums collected on patient care.

5) Edwards health insurance plan would be cost $90 billion-$120 billion per year and be paid for by repealing Bush’s tax cuts on those making more than $200,000 per year.
